DAY 1—INDUSTRIAL GARY/INDIANA DUNES NATIONAL PARK AND CENTURY OF PROGRESS HOMES
Meet your Discoveries Director and fellow travelers in Elm Grove, WI where we’ll begin our travels. As we pass through Gary, IN, our step on guide will not only give you the rich history of the city, but also the various architectural styles that have shaped the city’s identity. After a delicious lunch at the Sand Creek Country Club in Chesterton, IN, continue on to Indiana Dunes National Park and the site of five Century of Progress Homes moved here after the 1933 World’s Fair. See these homes and their modern and futuristic look before continuing to Lafayette for our first overnight. L, D

DAY 2—SAMARA HOUSE/ATTERBURY-BAKALAR AIR MUSEUM
Our day begins at the John and Catherine Christian House, also known as Samara, named for the winged seeds found in pinecones. This is a pristine example of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Usonian architecture. After a tasty lunch in a building dating back to 1903 and designed by architect Harrison Albright, we visit the Atterbury-Bakalar Air Museum located on a former Air Force Base. As we make our way into Columbus, our next stop is the renovated Republic Building on the local campus extension of Indiana University. Next, we stop at the Eskenazi School’s J. Irwin Miller Architecture School to tour this nationally recognized historic landmark before checking into our hotel for the next two evenings. B, L

DAY 3—COLUMBUS/MILLER HOUSE AND GARDENS
We start today with a guided architectural tour of Columbus. Learn more about this city and its remarkable modern art and architecture noted by 20th and 21st century architects. Marvel at the stunning original glasswork of Dale Chihuly and see other impressive sculptures throughout the city. After some time exploring on our own, we’ll tour the beautiful Miller House and Garden. This mid-century home is often called one of the best examples of residential modernism. This evening we gather for a farewell dinner at Zaharakos Ice Cream Parlor and Museum where you’ll step back in time. See a Tiffany-style lamp, a carbonated water dispenser, a spectacular 50-foot backbar of mahogany, the largest collection of pre-1900 soda fountains on public display, and so much more. B, D

DAY 4—TC STEELE/INDIANA UNIVERSITY
We start our day with a visit to the noted Hoosier impressionist painter TC Steele’s home and studio. This home built in 1907 is what inspired the artists’ work. After lunch, visit Indiana University for a guided walking tour of the campus with a local geologist who will tell our group about the use of Indiana limestone in the various university buildings. Alas, we must say farewell to our new friends and relish in the lasting memories. B, L
