You’ll visit Yerkes Observatory, explore Nicholas Conservatory and tour the unusual Tinker Swiss Cottage Museum. In Galena, a guided trolley tour introduces you to the town’s lead-mining heritage, Civil War connections and ties to Ulysses S. Grant.

DAY 1: MILWAUKEE/LAKE GENEVA/YERKES OBSERVATORY

Your Midwest getaway begins with a warm welcome brunch before traveling to the picturesque resort town of Lake Geneva. Take in the scenery on a narrated cruise, where elegant estates and tranquil shorelines provide a perfect introduction to your getaway. Spend time exploring the lively lakeside downtown before continuing to the historic Yerkes Observatory. Discover one of the birthplaces of modern astronomy as you explore this architectural and scientific landmark. This evening, gather for a casual catered dinner before settling in for the night. B, D

DAY 2: NICHOLAS CONSERVATORY/TINKER SWISS COTTAGE/GALENA

Travel to Rockford this morning to visit Nicholas Conservatory and Gardens. Explore colorful plant collections and enjoy views along the river before continuing to the Tinker Swiss Cottage Museum, a beautifully preserved home known for its distinctive architecture and fascinating history. Later, arrive in Galena, where preserved 19th-century buildings and historic charm have made this one of the Midwest’s most beloved destinations. Your home for the next three nights is the historic DeSoto House Hotel, Illinois’ oldest operating hotel since 1855, conveniently located just steps from Main Street. B, L

DAY 3: GALENA TROLLEY TOUR/FREE TIME

Get acquainted with Galena on a guided trolley tour through its historic streets. Along the way, learn about Galena’s lead mining heritage, its role during the Civil War, and the legacy of Ulysses S. Grant, whose home still stands as a testament to the town’s past. This afternoon is yours to enjoy at your own pace. Stroll along Main Street, lined with locally owned boutiques, art galleries, antique shops, and inviting cafés housed in historic storefronts. You may choose to visit historic sites, sample local products, or simply soak in the charm of one of the Midwest’s most picturesque towns. B, L

DAY 4: MISSISSIPPI RIVER/FARM EXPERIENCE/BREWERY/SUPPER CLUB

Dive into the history and culture of the region with a visit to the National Mississippi River Museum, where interactive exhibits bring the story of this iconic waterway to life. Continue to a local farm for an authentic Midwest experience, with a glimpse into daily farm life. DAY 5: GRAVITY HILL/TALIESIN/RETURN HOME

Arrival Time

Our Welcome Breakfast on Day 1 is at our hotel from 8:00 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. We recommend arriving by 6:30 a.m. if you are flying into Milwaukee.

Departure Time

Schedule your flight home to depart after 5:30 p.m. on Day 5.

Airport Transportation / Vehicle Parking

Our starting hotel offers a complimentary shuttle service to/from the Airport. If you are driving to the starting location, they also offer complimentary parking for the duration of the tour.

Walking Distance

To fully enjoy your vacation, you should be in good physical health and understand there are times when a good deal of walking is involved in our tours. Those who have difficulty walking may not want to take this trip or should discuss their personal situation with their doctor before deciding. You should be able to walk at a steady pace up to a mile at a time for a daily total of three to four miles per day and be able to manage steps to board/de-board the motorcoach several times a day. In addition, please know you may be expected to exit the motorcoach at each stop because local law requires mandatory motorcoach driver breaks.

Due to the lack of proper facilities at some of the farms, ranches, and off-the-beaten-path sites we often visit, we are unable to accommodate walkers and wheelchairs.
