Winter brings a quieter side of the nation’s first national park. With many park roads closed to private vehicles, you’ll experience a landscape few travelers ever see. Your journey includes Yellowstone’s geothermal features, wildlife-rich Lamar Valley, a visit with alpacas and llamas, and a hearty Western meal at 320 Guest Ranch.

DAY 1: WELCOME TO BOZEMAN!

Start our winter wonderland tour in Bozeman, MT, featuring a welcome dinner and overnight stay. D

DAY 2: WEST YELLOWSTONE

Delight in a unique farm tour by getting up close and personal with friendly, fluffy alpacas and llamas at Alpacas of Montana. Learn about alpaca care and fiber production while walking amidst and feeding these charming animals. What a photo op! Continue to West Yellowstone for a three-night stay at the newly renovated Holiday Inn Hotel just steps from the world’s first National Park. B, D

DAY 3: OLD FAITHFUL

Journey into Yellowstone National Park aboard a private, heated snowcoach guided by our local expert. Closed to normal vehicles, this is the only way to see Yellowstone cloaked in its winter beauty. Watch as herds of bison trudge through snowy valleys and see Old Faithful cast steamy water high into the winter sky. After a day exploring the snowy wilderness in comfort, return to West Yellowstone for dinner. B, L, D

DAY 4: YELLOWSTONE FREE DAY

Spend a free day exploring the area, choosing from many exciting options below. B

OPTIONAL ACTIVITIES (book on your own; suggestions will be emailed after making a reservation):

  • Snowcoach Tour to Lower Falls: Enjoy a guided snowcoach tour in the park to the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone where you’ll see Lower Falls and Hayden Valley, along with thermal features and wildlife.
  • Snowmobile Tour: Join a guided, full-day tour driving your own snowmobile to either the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone or Old Faithful again. Not recommended for those with mobility concerns.
  • Explore West Yellowstone: Visit attractions such as the Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center, the Yellowstone IMAX theatre, and the downtown strip of shops and restaurants (no advanced registration required).
  • Rent Snow Equipment: Rent snowshoes, snowmobiles, or cross-country skis to explore the areas around West Yellowstone (no advanced registration needed; reserve on site).
DAY 5: 320 GUEST RANCH

Experience Montana’s pioneer spirit as you enjoy a hearty Western meal and hear ranch stories at 320 Guest Ranch, beautifully nestled in the snow-glistening Gallatin Valley. Then spend the afternoon at the Museum of the Rockies, where you’ll discover how the Yellowstone region became a hotbed of geologic activity and wildlife. Later, upon arrival in Gardiner, check in for two nights at the Absaroka Lodge and
enjoy the views of the park from your private balcony overlooking the mighty Yellowstone River. B, L

DAY 6: LAMAR VALLEY

Your grand adventure begins as a naturalist guides you into the magical Lamar Valley, where bison, elk, and pronghorn graze across the same landscape as Yellowstone’s most iconic predator, the gray wolf. Since
being reintroduced in 1995, wolves have been at the top of the bucket list for wildlife sightings in Yellowstone. After a morning on safari, enjoy lunch at the historic Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel and a stroll along the area’s colorful thermal features before returning to Gardiner. B, L

DAY 7: RETURN HOME FROM BOZEMAN

Return home with wonderful memories of a remarkable adventure. B

Arrival Time
Our Welcome Dinner on Day 1 is at our hotel, Hilton Garden Inn, Bozeman starting at 6:00 p.m. We recommend scheduling your flight to arrive by 4:00 p.m.

Departure Time
Schedule your flight home to depart from Bozeman, MT any time after 1:00 p.m.

Airport Transportation / Vehicle Parking
Our starting hotel offers a complimentary shuttle service to/from the Bozeman Airport. If you are driving to the starting location, they also offer complimentary parking for the duration of the tour.

Walking Distance
Moderate walking is required to fully enjoy this tour. While the amount of walking may not be extensive, there is the likelihood of wintery conditions including snow and ice. Previous travelers have found assistance with trekking poles and/or cleat like straps called YakTrax. While walking canes are allowed, we are unable to accommodate travelers using other mobility devices, including walkers and wheelchairs.

A total of three mailings are sent to assist you in preparing for your tour, including information sent upon receipt of your reservation.

Dress on tour is casual. Plan for winter outerwear, heavy winter coat, hat, mittens or gloves, and winter boots. People have found hand and toe warmers to be very helpful. HotHands hand and toe warmers can be ordered online.
