DAY 2—CHOCOLATE/FREDERICKSBURG/LBJ RANCH/JOHNSON CITY
Remember to bring your camera today as we head into Hill Country! The quaint German community of Fredericksburg will be decorated and ready for us. Start off with a chocolate demonstration at Quintessential Chocolates. Taste their specialty liquid filled chocolates and perhaps take some home for holiday gifts, then spend time wandering Main Street, delighting in the town’s shops, wineries and more. Next, visit the Lyndon B. Johnson Ranch for a ranger-guided tour of the Texas White House. You’ll love the rolling hills and pastureland that LBJ roamed before becoming President. Following a delicious dinner, we’ll see Johnson City’s buildings brilliantly illuminated for its holiday Lights Spectacular—a thrilling way to wrap up our time in cowboy country. B, D
DAY 3—MISSIONS SAN JOSE & CONCEPCION/MARKET SQUARE
This morning, you will experience a guided tour of the iconic San Antonio Missions—America’s newest UNESCO World Heritage Site—and learn about their important history.
From the beautiful grounds to the Art Nouveau and Victorian styles of the Guenther House, tour the home of the founder of Pioneer Flour Mills, followed by a delicious lunch. This afternoon, we’ll unpack for two nights in our hotel set right on the banks of the famous River Walk (Paseo del Rio). This vibrant network of canals, tropical walkways, bridges, shops, restaurants and historic sites lining the banks of Rio San Antonio goes all-out for the holiday season. You’ll be enchanted by the decorations and lights! Tonight, ends with a magical cruise on our chartered riverboat to see the luminaria--traditional Mexican Christmas candle displays—and perhaps catch the Ford Holiday Boat Caroling. Finally, if you’d like, stroll over to see the history of San Antonio come alive in a special Saga light show projected onto the San Fernando Cathedral. B, L
DAY 4—HOLIDAY BRUNCH/PEARL/CIA DEMO/CRUISE
Bring a Texas-sized appetite for our festive holiday brunch at the grand Menger Hotel, the oldest continuously operating hotel west of the Mississippi. Next to the hotel, is the Alamo—a National Historic Landmark and newly minted UNESCO World Heritage Site. We’ll be moved by its story as we walk in the footsteps of Davy Crockett, Jim Bowie and other valiant men who will live in Texans’ memories forever. This afternoon, be impressed by the skills of our chef-instructors at The Culinary Institute of America’s interactive “First Taste” program. We’ll have a tasting and take recipes home to try ourselves! Then enjoy free time to explore the Pearl, a former brewery that is today a true city landmark for shopping and recreation. Brunch
DAY 5—SAN ANTONIO BOTANICAL GARDENS/ADIOS!
Following breakfast, we’ll visit the San Antonio Botanical Gardens. See the magical holiday displays of garlands, red ribbons and other holiday decorations
and witness the beauty of the changing seasons. You’ll head home filled with cheer and ready for the holidays. B
