DAYS 1-2–CHICAGO/TEL AVIV
Meet your friendly tour representative at Chicago O’Hare before our overnight flight to Tel Aviv. Upon arrival, our motorcoach will take us to our hotel in Tel Aviv to rest up for the journey ahead.
DAY 3–CAESAREA MARITIMA/MOUNT CARMEL/NAZARETH/CANA
After a traditional Israeli buffet breakfast, we begin our day traveling north to Caesarea Maritima, the Roman city on the Mediterranean coast. Caesarea was given to King Herod as a present by Augustus Caesar and is also named after him. Herod built a massive port there alongside entertainment facilities, bathhouses and temples. Caesarea was the home of Cornelius, whom the Lord used to begin the spread of the gospel to the Gentiles. From there we travel to Mount Carmel to the Carmelite Monastery, perched high above the scenic Jezreel Valley. Afterwards we tour Nazareth, where we visit the Church of The Annunciation and the grotto home of the Holy Family. Not far from Nazareth is Cana, where Jesus performed his first miracle of turning water into wine. It is here where we will visit the Church of the Wedding Feast. Continue to our hotel overlooking the Sea of Galilee. B, D
DAY 4–THE JESUS BOAT/MOUNT OF BEATITUDES/CAPERNAUM/TABGHA/MOUNT TABOR
After breakfast at our hotel, we start the day at Kibbutz Nof Ginosar to see the amazing "Jesus Boat," an ancient fishing vessel that could seat 13 fishermen. Continue to the Mount of Beatitudes offering spectacular views over the fields where Jesus taught and fed the 5,000. In charming Tabgha, we will visit both the inspiring Church of the Multiplication and the Church of St. Peter commemorating the spot where Jesus anointed His disciple. Tour the historic village of Capernaum to see the house of St. Peter and the ancient synagogue. Then we’ll enjoy an included lunch of St. Peter's Fish at Kibbutz Ein Gev, a picturesque citrus orchard located on the shores of the sea. From there, we sail across the Sea of Galilee in a wooden boat, landing back in Tiberias where we will enjoy free time and dinner on our own. B, L
DAY 5–MOUNT TABOR/BEIT SHE’AN/JERICHO/JESUS’ BAPTISMAL SITE
Today enjoy breakfast at our hotel and start our journey south. Our first visit will be to the church of the Transfiguration high atop Mount Tabor. From there, we will travel to Beit She’an, which has played an important role throughout history due to its geographical location. It was on the gates of this city that the bodies of King Saul and his sons were hung after their death. Several impressive buildings have been excavated, including a theatre, a public bathhouse, two magnificent colonnaded streets, a Roman temple and much more. The city was destroyed in a large earthquake in 749. We continue our travels via the Jordan valley that will take us to Jericho, the oldest city in the world. Here we will take a cable car ride to the top of Mount of Temptation, passing over lush citrus orchards and the archeological ruins of the oldest city on earth. Our last stop before traveling to Jerusalem will be Qasr el-Yahud, the site along the Jordan River where John baptized Jesus. This is also where the Israelites crossed the Jordan River to the Promised Land. B, D
DAY 6–HOLY LAND MODEL/EIN KEREM/BETHLEHEM
We start our day at the impressive Model of Jerusalem, which depicts the city during the Second Temple period. It is a 1:50 scale model that covers more than 22,000 square feet, and provides a wonderful overview of the holy city. Then, travel to the bucolic village of Ein Kerem where St. John was born and where the Virgin Mary greeted her cousin, Elizabeth. Here we will tour the grotto chapel of St. John and the Church of the Visitation, and see the mosaics proclaiming the Magnificat in more than 60 languages. Next we continue to the Shepherd’s Field and enjoy a savory Mediterranean lunch before entering Bethlehem. Once at Manger Square, visit the Crusader Church of the Nativity, built over the cave in which Jesus was born. We’ll stop at the beautiful Milk Grotto and also spend a bit of time shopping for unique olive wood souvenirs. B, L
DAY 7–MASADA/DEAD SEA/QUMRAN
This morning we depart Jerusalem for a full-day excursion to Masada and the Dead Sea. At Masada National Park, we will ascend to the top of Masada by cable car. Once there, we will tour the palaces constructed by Herod the Great and hear the story of the 960 Jewish Zealots who held back thousands of Roman attackers for more than a year (73-74 CE). The siege of Masada is revered in modern Israel as a "symbol of Jewish heroism". From Masada, we will travel the shore of the Dead Sea, and have the unique opportunity to "float" atop the salty body of water. Its surface and shores are remarkably 1,412 feet below sea level, making it the lowest elevation on earth. Finally, before heading to Jerusalem we visit Qumran where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered in 1947. On our way to Jerusalem we will travel along the Old Jericho road passing the traditional site of the Inn of the Good Samaritan. B, D
DAY 8–MOUNT OF OLIVES/GARDEN OF GETHSEMANE/YAD VASHEM: THE WORLD HOLOCAUST REMEMBRANCE CENTER
This morning we begin atop the Mount of Olives, visiting the Chapel of Jesus’ Ascension and the Church of the Pater Noster, built on the site where Jesus taught the disciples the Lord’s Prayer. Walking down the mount, we will visit the Garden of Gethsemane, the Church of All Nations and the Tomb of Mary, an ancient underground cave-church. This afternoon, we tour Yad Vashem, the center dedicated to the story and history of the holocaust. Walk along the pastoral Avenue of the Righteous, planted with hundreds of trees memorializing non-Jews who provided for the safety and well-being of those escaping the holocaust. B, D
DAY 9–MOUNT ZION/TEMPLE MOUNT/THE WAY OF SORROWS/GARDEN TOMB
Begin the day at Mount Zion to see the Cenacle (Upper Room), the traditional site of the Last Supper. See the ancient Western Wall supporting the Temple Mount and then ascend the mount to tour the Dome of the Rock. Walk through the ancient walled city along the Via Dolorosa (Way of Sorrows), the same path walked by Jesus on his way to Golgotha. Enter the famed Church of the Holy Sepulcher where pilgrims from across the world come to venerate the Tomb of Christ. Conclude the day with a visit to the serene Garden Tomb, a quiet meditation garden featuring a rock tomb from the time of Jesus. Enjoy a sumptuous farewell dinner at our hotel on this last night in spectacular Jerusalem. B, D
