A visit to San Antonio wouldn’t be complete without a stop at the Alamo. We’ll walk in the footsteps of Davy Crockett, Jim Bowie and other valiant men who will live in history forever. Next, the restored Japanese Sunken Gardens feature a lush year-round garden and a floral display with shaded walkways, stone bridges, a 60-foot waterfall and ponds filled with Koi. Wander the paths and take in the beauty around you. We’ll enjoy lunch at the Jingu House Café located at the gardens. This morning we visit the Wildflower Art Gallery located in Wimberley. The gallery features the work of Linda Calvert Jacobson, a native Texan. We’ll talk with David Jacobson, Gallery Manager and (Linda’s husband), who will provide a very informative and interesting view of her art and background. David is also a retired horticulturist and will give insight on the wildflowers in bloom. You’ll have some time to browse the gallery and charming town of Wimberley before continuing on to the Live Music Capital of the World. This afternoon, a highlight of the tour takes us to the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. From collecting seeds to designing and installing green roofs, the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin realizes its mission through ecological design, research, plant conservation and landscape restoration. Its 284 acres are a mix of cultivated gardens, an arboretum, managed natural areas and wildlands. A docent will help us explore the many gardens throughout the center. You’ll also have some time on your own for pictures before we check in to the hotel for the evening. B, L

This morning, we’re making our way towards the quaint German community of Fredericksburg. On our way, we’ll visit the Lyndon B. Johnson Ranch for a ranger-guided tour of the exterior of the Texas White House. You’ll love the rolling hills and pastureland that LBJ roamed before becoming President. The outskirts of Fredericksburg have become home to numerous wineries and vineyards going back to the original settlers of the region. We’ll stop at one, Signor Vineyards for a tour and tasting at this family-run winery, located in the rolling hills of Central Texas where the Pedernales River meets Grape Creek. Before leaving the vineyard, you’ll want to stroll their beautifully manicured gardens. We continue into Fredericksburg, where you’re free to explore this quaint German community for lunch on own, strolling Main St. and shopping for that perfect souvenir. Later, we check into our hotel located on Main Street, just steps from the hustle and bustle of town. This evening, join the group for a Chef Demonstration and tasting at Fischer & Wieser, home of the original Raspberry Chipotle Sauce. The class will be a fun and interactive demonstration along with delicious wine. Enjoy your evening! B, D

Limestone cliffs, granite outcroppings and hidden springs are a perfect habitat for wildflowers in Hill Country. You’ll witness this wonderful area up close this morning as we take you on the back roads and byways in search of some of the most beautiful (and in bloom) flowers. And if your eyes haven’t seen enough beauty, we’ll visit Wildseed Farms. They grow fields of wildflowers for the production of seed and is one of the nation’s largest working wildflower farms. A representative of the farm will speak with the group and take you on a behind the scenes tour of their facilities. We’ll have time to visit the boutique, nurseries, walking trails, and Butterfly Center. Enjoy time back in Fredericksburg before our farewell dinner. B, L, D
