DAY 1—WELCOME TO FT. MYERS!
Welcome to Ft. Myers. Upon arrival, you’ll settle in at your comfortable hotel and meet your Discoveries Director and fellow passengers at this evening’s welcome reception.
DAY 2—EVERGLADES N.P./HOMESTEAD
This morning after breakfast, visit Shark Valley in the Everglades and take a tram tour with an Everglades Park Naturalist. At the halfway point a 45 foot high observation deck gives an opportunity to experience panoramic views of the Everglades extending out 20 miles in all directions. After lunch at a local favorite, Woody’s Barbecue, visit S&L Growers, the largest vegetable growers in Miami-Dade County. B, L
DAY 3—GATORS, DOLPHINS & TURTLES…OH MY!
Start today with a thrilling walk through a sawgrass marsh on the Anhinga Trail—keep your eyes open for alligators, turtles and many different breeds of birds. After lunch we visit the rehabilitated bottlenose dolphins and California sea lions living at the Dolphin Research Center. At a nearby turtle hospital, we learn how they rescue, treat and release sick and injured turtles. You can even track your favorite turtle after release, and watch as they swim thousands of miles around the globe! Tonight, we’ll unpack for the next two nights in our all-suite hotel in famed Key West, just across the street from Smathers Beach. B, L
DAY 4—KEY WEST/HEMINGWAY HOUSE/FREE TIME
Today board the famous Conch Tour Train for a private tour of some of the most famous sights in Key West. Learn about the unique architecture, history and colorful characters that make this such an exciting place. After, we tour the house that Ernest Hemingway called home for more than ten years. Step back in time and visit the rooms and gardens that witnessed the most prolific period of this Nobel Prize winner’s writing career. This afternoon you are on your own to explore the streets of old Key West, or head back to the hotel to relax by the pool or beach just across from our hotel. This evening we’ll take you to Mallory Square for Key West’s famed Sunset Celebration. B, L
DAY 5—TRUMAN’S HOUSE/ROBBIE’S/KEY LARGO
Following breakfast we learn of some of the naval and presidential history in Key West at Harry Truman’s Little White House. Built in 1890 as naval officers’ housing, it has since seen many important visitors such as Thomas Edison and six U.S. presidents. Heading back up the Keys, be on the lookout for the endangered residents of National Key Deer Refuge, like a miniature white-tailed deer found only in the Keys. Our next stop is at Robbie’s Marina, home of the world-famous Tarpon feeding! Tonight we stay in Key Largo at the Marina. B, L
DAY 6—FLORIDA FRUIT/ORCHIDS/CRUISE
This morning say goodbye to the Keys as we head back to the mainland. En route, we’ll make a stop at Robert is Here Fruit Stand, a local favorite. Here we will get the chance to sample different exotic fruits. Next, walk through a tropical paradise at R.F. Orchids Nursery, where vibrant colorful varieties of orchids are grown. We’ll get a tour of the gardens and greenhouse and enjoy a lunch in a lush tropical setting. In Naples, we’ll enjoy a narrated sightseeing cruise through the Naples Bay and Gordon Pass waterways, passing many luxurious mansions that dot the shore. From there, our journey continues back to Ft. Myers. B, L
DAY 7—FAREWELL, FLORIDA
This morning, we’ll enjoy a final breakfast together before heading home exhilarated by our time the gardens, parks and beaches at the tip of the Sunshine State. B
