DAY 2–ANDREW JACKSON’S “HERMITAGE”/CROSSVILLE/SMOKY MTN OPRY
At “The Hermitage,” the 1,000-acre plantation and former mansion of our seventh president, Andrew Jackson, learn what Tennessee life was like in the early 1800s. After lunch in Crossville, we’ll continue into Pigeon Forge for an evening musical performance including a variety of different genres that include Broadway, rock n’ roll, bluegrass, country and gospel. DAY 3–GREAT SMOKY MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK/ BLUE RIDGE PARKWAY
‘This morning, relish a breathtaking ride through Great Smoky Mountain National Park, named for the bluish mist that clings to the mountainsides. Mountaineer guide Tim Hall will regale you with fascinating and humorous stories of life in this mountain region. Entering by the famous scenic byway, the Blue Ridge Parkway, end the day in North Carolina stopping at scenic overlooks, taking in one last look at the beautiful Smoky Mountains. B, L
DAY 4–BILTMORE ESTATE/THE VANDERBILT LEGACY
Spend the day at George and Edith Vanderbilt’s extraordinary Biltmore Estate, an astonishing 8,000-acre landmark reminiscent of the grandest European royal palaces and landscapes. After a private overview tour of the estate lands and a self-guided visit inside the luxurious family home, spend time on your own exploring all that this amazing estate and community has to offer. DAY 5–GREAT SMOKY MOUNTAIN RAILROAD/CHATTANOOGA
All aboard! Today’s centerpiece is a thrilling rail excursion along the beautiful Nantahala River and Gorge. You’ll learn how the Western North Carolina Railroad opened up the “outside” world to thousands of hill people. Travel through the Nantahala Forest on your way towards Chattanooga, the “Scenic City”. Situated along the Tennessee River and southeast Tennessee Mountains, you’ll get a good feeling of why the city is called one of the most beautiful. B, L
DAY 6–INCLINE RAILWAY/ROCK CITY/LOOKOUT MTN, GA
After a delicious breakfast, enjoy gorgeous vistas viewed from atop Lookout Mountain as you ride the Incline Railway on “America’s Most Amazing Mile”. Chattanooga was the site of the famed “Battle Above the Clouds” during the Civil War. Get another perspective on Lookout Mountain at Rock City, a true marvel of nature featuring massive ancient rock formations, gardens with over 400 native plant species, and breathtaking “See 7 States” panoramic views.
